Kriya Yoga is an ancient, living, alchemical system designed to address the deepest levels of the psyche and create the energy needed for transformation. The techniques first brought to the United States by Paramahamsa Yogananda in the 1920s will be taught as a methodology for self-scrutiny and energization.
Breakthroughs derived from deep self-scrutiny (the alchemical reddening) require energy. Still more energy is required to sustain a breakthrough without returning to a state of sleep and unawareness. The techniques taught in this class use the principle of alchemical transmutation to take the energy that feeds the stress response in everyday life and redirect it towards breakthroughs and goals. The survival mechanisms of evolutionary biology (such as fight or flight) continue to fire in a modern age where we are more often battling minds and information than predators. But the effects of adrenaline on the body and psyche remain, making these techniques essential alchemical practices for sustaining energy in the current era.
Come to this class ready to keep a promise to yourself. Bring a journal for notes on each technique practiced and for personal reflections. Identify a short-term personal goal that you will work towards as you dialog with yourself and your world through the practice of Kriya Yoga.
For this program, we intend to offer CEUs for Social Workers.
Heidi Lindemann and Michael Perry are lineage holders in the
Kriya Yoga tradition (an Indian alchemical tradition) and are authorized to initiate and teach Kriya Yoga and its related teachings. The techniques of Kriya Yoga involve a psycho-physical means of self-inquiry and are an initiated path to understanding one's own psyche in the context of the macrocosm. The Swami order is one of the oldest, continuous, living initiatory and alchemical systems extant. Heidi and Michael combine their experience to make yogic teachings accessible to western minds by use of comparative mythology, storytelling, astrology, and other symbolic systems. They are regular course leaders at the Jung Society, the Theosophical Society, and have delivered lectures on Samkhya Yoga to colleges and seminaries.
