We will have a wide-ranging discussion of how this enormous environmental disaster is affecting us. What can we do with our sadness and grief? What are the lessons we are learning? Is this the myth of Persephone (our innocence) being raped by Pluto (underworld oil), with Demeter (earth mother) making the world barren?

On a more practical level, does our country need to change its
reliance on oil? Is this disaster finally making us more aware of the
toxicity of petroleum products? We will study a list of petroleum-based and
other toxins in our everyday products, drawn up by women in Marin County,
California, because of their elevated breast cancer rates. Bring your
wisdom and join us as we brainstorm solutions.
