An Evening With
“Astrology represents the sum of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity – C. G. Jung
In C. G. Jung’s Collected Works, as well as his other writing, one can see many references to astrological symbols and hermetic concepts, which can be seen as sources for his ideas. Some of these ideas include the archetypes, his theory of psychological types, the persona, individuation, and synchronicity. Liz Greene, a modern professional astrologer and Jungian analyst believes that the future of psychology lay in rebuilding the lost connection between modern man, these ancient esoteric ideas and the cosmos.
One of several astrologers that we will discuss was Alan Leo (1860 -1917) a prominent 19th-century British astrologer known as the father of modern astrology. We know that Jung had several astrology books in his library, one of which was by Leo. It is interesting to note that Jung’s psychological types are remarkably similar to Leo’s work on the astrological elements.
Starting In the 20th century, astrologers borrowed facets of Jung’s ideas to include in their works. Among these astrologers are Dane Rudhyar, Liz Greene, and Steven Forrest. This started cross-fertilization between Jung’s depth psychology and modern astrology. We will discuss how this synergy contributed to our understanding of both astrology and depth psychology.
